Stage Fright Be Gone....

I've actually grown some balls to get on that damn stage, but everyone bailed on me the last minute!

That was last week....I'm not so sure about this week though. I've got my material ready just in case however there's something bigger than this going on. My exam in a couple of weeks! AAARRGGGHHH!! Ok, so I've been studying (slightly), but I am dedicating every day to more studying so I can rock that b*tch!

Anyway, I will post up pictures from that event when it does it occur. For now, just take a gander at these incredible pics where it will take place....

Cookout @ Chanel's

I love the Summertime for the weather (when it isn't so hot & sticky), Rita's almost every weekend, My BIRTHDAY, and COOKOUTS!!!

I know it seems like I have a different reason to love Summer or Spring, but I love both seasons for different reasons. What I dislike is when my allergies flare up. I was going to try Allergy Buster, but I honestly hate taking medicines. Unless I'm in dire need of it, I refuse to take it.

I love the scent of grilled food: chicken, kabobs, corn, salmon, etc. This past weekend, we went to Chanel's for a cookout which was originally a 'Ladies Only' event, but to satisfy the 'Single Ladies' the guys came too. It was a lot of fun catching up with everyone like Anthony, Nat, Karley, Tim, Fred (who's currently in college at Buffalo and who's lovingly dubbed as "little big brother" ha-ha), Antione, Faith, Kim (who is always late for everything!), Grace, Craig, etc.

Sharon, Angie, Evan, Karley, and I played Uno and Scrabble...too much fun! I love that pic above where Jaiden's looking at the camera with his startled expression and Evan in the background HA-HA.

I hope everyone enjoyed their Memorial Day weekend!

Until the next cookout ....

The DK aka Dylan Kai

Spent some time with my nephew Kai a couple weekends ago before my damn sickness took over. It's been almost a week since I've been "ill" but I'll be fine.

He began rolling over early this month and hasn't stopped since. I think he's going to start crawling soon, but I ssooo love that hoodie on him!

Have a great week everyone!

Beer anyone?

I don't usually drink beer, but I try whatever he tries. Well, for the most part.

I'm a certified lightweight - a drop of tequila and I can be "twisted" in an instant LOL! One weekend we were watching some basketball and what goes better with sports than drinks?? So we bought some Hoegaarden (pronounced Whoo-garden) and Mike's Cranberry Lemonade (for me). Hoegaarden is white ale and similar to Blue Moon which I think is really good!

Have you tried it yet?

P.S. I'd like to note that this is one of my fave pics for reasons that may be obvious but is actually unfathomable ...

Poetry Session

The GREEN Movement

Some of us are posers
These types talk about "going GREEN"
When their actions prove they're not movers
But a part of the problem

See, "going GREEN" is more than
Discussing your views and going about
Informing people of your doubts
Or information you hear via second/third party news

You must do as you say
Show people the right way

Recycle, Reduce, Reuse
Three key components of "going GREEN"
But what does it really mean?

One should be more conscious about their waste
Whether it be food, vehicle use, or responsibly
Throwing away that plastic case

Print less paper and utilize alternative ways to communicate
After all who isn't online nowadays?

Think twice about getting your Caramel Macchiato
In a Starbucks cup
Here's an incentive
Bring your own mug next time to receive a discount

Everyone is trying to save their pennies and dimes
Global Warming is not a scare tactic
You should be more aware
Of how to dispose your sh*t accordingly
It's about time world, this isn't just for you and me

I'm way ahead of you in more ways than one
I'm thinking about my children and grandchildren
Whenever that day comes

Let's do better people
The GREEN Movement is here to stay
Don't let the mistakes of yesterday
Find itself biting you in the ass one day

Ooohhh....SEXY!!

Here's my list of the top 5 sexiest men ever!!

Common & Idris Elba are both equally my number 1, but if I had to pick, Common would win hands down. I miss Maxwell and his great music. Glad he's coming back, but I wish Tank was doing the same thing! Ugh, it's been awhile since I've heard one of his lovely romantic songs. In the end though, all of these men are sexy in their own ways.

Enjoy ladies!!

Childhood Bliss

Look at Kai and Devin. They are such fun-loving and happy kids. I love them both equally and they help me go back to my own childhood bliss....

I LOVE, LOVE that pic of Kai and him LOL'ing ha-ha....the cutest!!

4 month HIATUS!!

I did it. Yes, I did it. But I had to do it.

I broke my vow of not shopping for 4 months. It had only been about 2 months but now I have to restart. Which means no shopping until September. That's fine with me since it will run into Labor Day sales! Honestly, there may be a few more purchases to last me until then, but to think that for four months I can't buy that sexy dress or pumps....GGGRRRR!!!

Over the weekend I bought a few things. The black shrug I'm wearing in the pic above from UP AGAINST THE WALL, Floral beige ruffled tank, and Beaded black tank. I fell in love with the beaded top because of the intricate design...it's ssooo hot!

But I did return the shrug, so if you think about it I have been doing a really good job. It was definitely worth it at the time, but this is about to be the longest 4 months of my life....

Hangover???

Last weekend I went to a couple clubs with some friends to party the long week away!!

I don't remember the last time I partied two nights in a row and while it was ssooo much fun, I still haven't recovered. Of course, until this morning I'd been struggling to stay awake. Late nights, etc. can wear someone like me out --- I feel so old! Ha-ha....

Saturday afternoon, Sharon & I went to a Pho Resto nearby called Hoa Binh. Pho is the best medicine for a hangover. I usually don't use anything from the veggie platter - usually consists of jalapenos, brussel sprouts, basil, and lime. It was delicious! Especially since I paired it with coconut juice - anyone who knows me knows that I LOVE COCONUT JUICE!!

I just LOVE these....

I love Lilies!!

Stargazer, Tiger, Water, etc... I LOVE THEM ALL! During my nephew's baptism, the previous mass held for a Quincenera had a beautiful arrangement, but as always only the lilies stuck out.

Speaking of a Great Poet.....

Hectic can't even completely describe how my week or past month has been. Each and every day makes me wish for Happy Hour. Well, I got that and more....

Nikki Giovanni is my ultimate fave when it comes to the world of Poetry. She's a Gemini like myself, but she also never fails when it comes to the poems that she pens down. She is an English Professor at Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University, also known as Virginia Tech, in Blacksburg, Virginia.

Love Poems by Nikki Giovanni is on my top ten list of GOOD READS. One of the best ever!! It was published in 1997 and includes great poems such as 'I Wrote a Good Omelet', 'All Eyez on U' (written especially for Tupac Shakur with whom I share a birthday), and my very own faves: The Way I Feel and That Day.

I was so nervous to meet her at first at the new location of Busboys and Poets on 5th and K St. Thanks to a friend of mine who called to inform me she was going to make an appearance, otherwise I would have never met her last week on Thursday, April 30th. I did not actually have a chance to meet her one-on-one because the place was packed. Nonetheless, she was a joy to listen to as she read a few poems from her new book entitled Bicycles. She also went on to talk about some of the shows she has been watching as of late like Jeopardy and Deal or No Deal, as well as murder and other unnecessary things in life.

I have celebrated the past two birthday dinners at the one on 14th and V St. I absolutely LOVE their Catfish, Nachos w/ Chicken, and most of all Carrot Cake! Also, it's all I could ever want for my birthday: Books, House of Poetry, and an intimate dinner with friends and loved ones.

It was too bad that I didn't get a chance to tell her I'm a big fan of her work, but until next time Ms. Giovanni.....
